June 2021 Canvas fabric, Pine bark, Pinecone, Pine leaf 1000 x 1300mm (each) A pine tree grove in Cornwall park is the place wherever I have the foremost sense of belonging. As a Chinese artist who has been influenced by Daoist culture for most of my life, the cultural differences and differnet ways of thinking let me feel incongruous in New Zealand. The pine tree grove calms me down every time I go there. Below the large pine trees, the humid and cool setting breeds plenty of tiny lives. below the protection of this pine tree, you don't have to be compelled to care for things. My work was inspired by the Gutai Group and Mono Ha, who advocated the use of unique concepts and ideas of Oriental Art. In my work, I try to express my understanding of "无为而无不为" (action through inaction), in Daoist culture through my works. I employed two strategies, 无为(Inaction) and 无不为(do everything), to draw out my impression of a pine grove in Cornwall Park.
